Healing Waters and Spa History
The Luisenquelle spring was discovered in 1734 by Wolfgang Brodmerkel, a farmer from Sichersreuth. It is the origin of Bad Alexandersbad’s spa history; its healing waters have long been used there as a source of vitality. The spring thus connects the spa’s history with the use of its waters.
At the ALEXBAD, guests can drink the healing water from the Luisenquelle or experience it on their skin during treatments. The ALEXBAD also offers a panoramic pool, a sauna, a training park, physiotherapy, massages and beauty treatments. This puts both the spring water and a range of activities for exercise and wellbeing at the heart of the spa experience.
Spa Park, Forest Swimming Pool and Trails
The Bad Alexandersbad forest swimming pool lies in the northwest of the municipal area, on the edge of a small forest, and covers around 1.5 hectares. For more than 100 years, it has served the local community as a place to relax and unwind. Its woodland setting and modest size give the pool a different character from the architecturally designed Palace Terraces.
The modern Palace Terraces, together with the Margrave’s Palace, make an eye-catching architectural feature and invite visitors to linger. The 5 km-long circular hiking trail 1, “At the Foot of the Luisenburg,” starts here. A natural Kneipp pool is part of the historic spa park; check its current condition before visiting.
The Luisenburg is also nearby. An avenue leads directly from the Old Spa House to the Luisenburg, the Rock Labyrinth and the open-air stage. A walk along the avenue and the striking rock formations add another excursion option to the local attractions.
Kleinwendern: Arche-Dorf and Group Visits
In 2019, Kleinwendern was named Bavaria’s first Arche-Dorf. A municipal notice dated 30 September 2025 states that the village is home to more than 200 endangered livestock breeds, including Coburger Fuchsschafe sheep and Bavarian land geese; the numbers may change. The village thus combines a special distinction with the preservation of a variety of livestock breeds.
During farm tours and at the experience farm in the Arche-Dorf, school classes and groups can learn about everyday life in the village.
