When looking for accommodation in Bidingen, you can distinguish the winter activities from the other aspects of your stay: the ski lift and cross-country ski trail are for winter sports, the Legends Trail – Bidingen Route leads to myth-inspired motifs, and church art and Dachssee lake add cultural and scenic highlights.

Winter Activities in Bidingen

Bidingen has a local ski lift called Skilift Bidingen. There is a specific, dated report for the cross-country ski trail: on February 21, 2026, it was about four kilometres long and groomed for both classic and skating techniques, but was also reported as not skiable. Both details describe its status at the time. So “groomed” did not mean that the trail was skiable that day. For a later trip, check the status for your own travel dates.

Legends Trail: Myths and Trail Surface

On the Legends Trail – Bidingen Route, myths are brought to life through information boards, texts and life-size legendary figures. About 96 percent of the route is asphalt, while about 4 percent consists of gravelled farm and forest roads. Asphalt is therefore by far the predominant surface; the percentages describe the route’s composition.

Parking for the route is available at the multipurpose hall in Bidingen. Travelling clockwise is recommended. The Bidingen Route connects to the “Biessenhofen” Route via Bernbach and Gennachsäge. This information provides guidance on the surface, direction and route connection, without specifying a walking or driving time.

Church Architecture and Religious Events

The parish church of St. Pankratius in Bidingen has a Gothic core dating from 1426. In 1738, Johann Georg Wolcker from Augsburg painted the frescoes in the nave. The stucco work was made by Joseph and Franz Xaver Schmuzer, who are described as Wessobrunner masters. The church therefore has several clearly identifiable features: its older Gothic core, 18th-century frescoes and stucco work by the two Schmuzer brothers.

The Catholic Calvary Chapel on Kalvariberg in Weiler is a circular building with a domed roof, lantern and articulated walls. Johann Georg Fischer built it in 1729/30; the chapel retains its original furnishings. Another local detail concerns Kalvariberg in Bidingen: devotions and baptisms are held there today, as well as a blessing of herbs on the Feast of the Assumption. Specific dates and service times may vary; if this event is important to your trip, check the date in advance.

Landscape and the Wider Ostallgäu Region

Dachssee lake is a remnant of a lake that formed in the landscape of what is now the municipality of Bidingen after the last ice age. This adds the area’s landscape history to the guide alongside winter sports and culture.

In the wider Ostallgäu travel region, the Alpspitzbahn Nesselwang offers a distinct regional point of reference: it provides access to the ski run around the 1,575-metre-high Alpspitz. The ski area offers family-friendly slopes and a children’s ski area. This information refers to Nesselwang in Ostallgäu. Operating conditions for winter activities may vary by season; check them for your travel dates.
