Lohhof can be explored during a stay through several specific themes: historic sites right in the town, trails and nature in the area surrounding Unterschleißheim, active leisure opportunities, as well as cultural attractions, museums and zoos in the nearer and wider regional area.
Historic Traces Right in Lohhof
Lohhof already had a railway station on the Munich–Landshut railway line in 1858. In 1972, the Lohhof stop was integrated into the suburban railway network. These two years mark important stages in the town's history and transport development. Anyone interested not only in leisure destinations but also in the town's development will find a clear historical connection here that reaches back to the 19th century.
Another historic site is the 500-metre-long Weg der Erinnerung (Path of Remembrance). It connects the memorial with the place of learning.
The fixed length of 500 metres makes the route easy to plan, while the memorial and place of learning serve as established points of reference.
The Virtual Place of Learning in Flachsfeld is within sight of the former Lohhof flax kiln, at the corner of Carl-von-Linde-Straße and Johann-Kotschwara-Straße. A QR code on a stele provides access to a virtual reconstruction of the flax kiln, as well as historical information and photographs.
The location at this corner and the view of the former flax kiln provide two specific points of reference for the historic site.
Trails, Cycling and Wheeled Sports
In the area surrounding Unterschleißheim, a designated cycle path runs westwards along Kreuzstraße towards Oberschleißheim. East of Ingolstädter Straße lies the Mallertshofer Holz landscape and nature conservation area. The local Heidepfad hiking trail runs through this area. The public leisure facilities of the SV Lohhof sports grounds are also located north of the project area. Cycling, hiking and sports are therefore represented as different leisure interests in the surrounding area.
The cycle path and the Heidepfad differ in their locations: one follows Kreuzstraße westwards, while the other runs through the Mallertshofer Holz to the east.
The Rolling Wheels section at the Unterschleißheim Sports Park on Ludwig-Pettinger-Weg offers a separate sporting option. Rolling Wheels operates a skate park there for BMX, skateboarding, inline skating and scooters. BMX bikes, skateboards, scooters and helmets can also be rented from Rolling Wheels. The skate park complements the cycle path and the Heidepfad with wheeled sports and the corresponding equipment.
The skate park accommodates BMX, skateboarding, inline skating and scooters; suitable equipment and helmets can be rented from Rolling Wheels.
