Guglöd was founded in the 17th century as the site of a glassworks. During the Thirty Years' War, the glassworks was relocated deep into the forest; later, some glassmakers settled in Guglöd.

The Bockkäfer circular trail around Guglöd is a very easy, family-friendly route measuring 3.2 kilometres in length, with a walking time of approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. The starting point is at the Guglöd car park at Guglöd 42.
