Eggersberg: Hiking Trails, Forest and Nature Experiences
Accommodation in Eggersberg
Eggersberg combines several clearly distinguishable points of interest for a stay: designated hiking trails, the nature experience trail at the Eggersberg Hütten-Schachten, a Kneipp pool on the edge of the forest, the Stojlbaun Chapel and an on-call bus service operating year-round.
Hiking trails with different route profiles
Eggersberg is a designated stop on the first stage of the “Glass Trail”, which is 17.3 km long overall. From Silbersbach, it is 1.6 km or approximately 15 minutes to Eggersberg; a further 1.9 km leads to Lohberg. The route can be divided into individual sections; Eggersberg is not defined as the starting or ending point of the entire stage.
One section of the “Glass Trail” hiking route leads via Oberlohberg and Eggersberg through Silbersbach to the Berghäusl. Eggersberg is part of this route, which passes through several places and destinations. This classification is particularly helpful when planning accommodation if you are considering one section of the trail and do not automatically want to complete the entire stage.
The difficult Osser Trail Lo1 offers a different focus. The 9.2 km circular hike runs from the Osser car park in Oberlohberg to the Großer Osser. The return route leads through the Osser Forest to Eggersberg and along the “Alter Stierweg” ecology experience trail. The “Glass Trail” is a stage route, while the Osser Trail is a difficult circular hike. This allows you to consider the tour’s length, character and return route separately.
Natural surroundings at the Eggersberg Hütten-Schachten
The Eggersberg Hütten-Schachten is designated as a nature experience trail. It lies at an elevation of 1,100–1,150 m north of the Kleiner Arber and covers approximately 2.5 hectares. These details refer to its location and area, not to snow conditions, trail conditions or any particular suitability for sporting activities. The nature experience trail at the Hütten-Schachten therefore provides a different focus from the longer hiking routes.
The Kneipp pool in Eggersberg also has a clearly described location: it lies directly on the “Glass Trail” hiking route and in an idyllic setting on the edge of the forest. When planning routes, its connection to the hiking trail is therefore just as relevant as its location by the forest.
A local connection at the Stojlbaun Chapel
The anniversary memorial services of the Edelweißschützen take place in the Stojlbaun Chapel in Eggersberg. This does not imply any further information about visits, accessibility or regular opening hours.
On-call bus and guest card for mobility planning
On-call bus route 914 operates year-round via Sommerau, Schwarzenbach, Eggersberg, Lam, Lambach, Rittsteig and Neukirchen b. Hl. Blut. At the same time, the service is not barrier-free. Both the places served and this restriction are therefore important when planning your stay. The route connects the places within this corridor.
With the “Lamer Winkel” guest card, travel by bus and train within the GUTi area is free of charge. What remains decisive is whether the guest card is valid for your stay and which connection you actually want to use. Free travel by bus and train does not replace checking whether a particular route or destination can be reached with route 914.
What to consider when choosing accommodation in Eggersberg
The “Glass Trail” offers a designated connection to a stage and individual sections, the Osser Trail represents a difficult circular hike with a length of 9.2 km, and the Hütten-Schachten combines a nature experience trail with an elevation of 1,100–1,150 m. In addition, the Kneipp pool, chapel and on-call bus connection are located in Eggersberg.
The Kneipp pool and the chapel each provide a different focus from the hikes. Together with year-round route 914, which is not barrier-free, they allow you to weigh up the length of your stay, the sections of trail you want to cover and the importance of public transport for your accommodation in Eggersberg.
