Dottingen in Winter: Ski Lift, Nature and Excursion Destinations
Accommodation in Dottingen
In the Münsingen district of Dottingen, there is a ski lift with two runs of different lengths. There are also opportunities for tobogganing and a hiking tour, as well as nature conservation, viewpoints, late Gothic architecture and air sports.
Ski Lift and Tobogganing in Dottingen
At the edge of the forest in the Münsingen district of Dottingen, there is a ski lift with two runs. One of them is designated as a family run and is approximately 550 to 600 metres long; there is also a steep slope around 400 metres long. Both runs are illuminated, and operating hours depend on the weather; tobogganing is permitted free of charge away from the prepared slope in the area of the car park. When planning, please note that lift operation depends on the weather; for tobogganing, the car park area and the unprepared slope are the relevant areas.
Höhnriß-Neuben Nature Reserve
The Höhnriß-Neuben nature reserve covers around 50 hectares and extends across the districts of Dottingen and Rietheim. The area essentially includes all or parts of the named areas Eisenrüttel, Neuben, Wiesach and Höhnriß. The natural area thus connects the district references of Dottingen and Rietheim.
Hiking Tour and Buchhalde
The circular route MÜNSINGER WANDERTOUR 3: Around the Eisenrüttel starts at the Buchhalde hiking car park in Münsingen-Dottingen. It is 5.56 km long, includes 130 metres of ascent and descent respectively, and takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes. Its duration means that the circular route can be planned as a separate period of time. The route connects its starting point in Münsingen-Dottingen with the Eisenrüttel there. The Eisenrüttel is also one of the named areas within the nature reserve.
Buchhalde itself reaches 866 metres and is the highest elevation in the town of Münsingen. In good weather, views of the Alps or distant landscapes are possible there. The view is dependent on good weather; the elevation figure is not.
Culture and Geological History
The Protestant church in Dottingen dates from 1605 and is late Gothic. Eisenrüttel is also home to an extensive basalt deposit, which is considered a special feature of the Swabian Jura. Finds from Celtic burial mounds originate from the area. Some of these finds are on display at the State Museum in Stuttgart.
Air Sports and Seasonal Refreshments
The Münsingen-Eisberg gliding site can be reached via Reutlinger Straße; the access road to the airfield is located on the K6701 between Münsingen and Dottingen.
The Münsingen-Eisberg Air Sports Club invites visitors to experience flying for themselves on a passenger flight. At the gliding site, the club trains its members in gliding, ultralight flying, touring motor glider flying and powered flight. Passenger flights are aimed at visitors, while training is for members.
The Fliegerklause provides seasonal guidance: it serves food and drinks on Sundays and public holidays during the flying season from April to October. This time restriction should be taken into account when planning a stay. This period is relevant for stopping for refreshments at the airfield.
