The Abondance ski area can be reached from the village centre by gondola lift. In the heart of the village, the Front de neige du Ludoffaz offers slopes suitable for beginners.
At Lac des Plagnes, the Nordic area offers a free, groomed 5-km trail for cross-country skiing and Nordic skiing. Lac des Plagnes is also a starting point for snowshoe hikes, as well as numerous walks and hikes.
Lac des Plagnes in Abondance lies in a hollow carved out by the passage of the Ardens Glacier and is designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Culture and cuisine
The Tour du village d’Abondance hiking route begins in the centre of Abondance, passes near the Abbaye d’Abondance and then continues to the Maison du Fromage Abondance.
The Notre-Dame de l’Assomption abbey church in Abondance is free to access every day. Admission to the cultural site of the Abbaye d’Abondance, including access to the cloister, part of the former monastery and the orchard, is charged.
The Maison du Fromage Abondance offers a sensory tour in nine stages, as well as interactive exhibitions on the key steps in making Abondance cheese – from milking the cows to maturing the cheese in the cellar. Visitors can also taste various local cheese specialities there.
