Greve Municipality: Ski Hotel, Ski Slope and Coast

In Greve Municipality, the ski hill in Hedeland is 50 metres high and 80 metres above sea level. During the winter season, there is an approximately 300-metre-long ski slope there. The winter connection therefore remains specific, while the municipality is also characterised by paths, coastal areas, natural areas and cultural-historical sites.

Winter and Paths

Hedeland has a network of paths totalling 100 kilometres. The area also includes a golf course, a playground, a fishing lake, shelters, a ski slope and a heritage railway. The Hedeland Amphitheatre was transformed from a gravel pit into Denmark’s largest open-air stage, with room for more than 4,000 spectators. In addition, Hedelands Veteranbane is a five-kilometre-long narrow-gauge museum railway with eight stops.

Another notable route is Gudernes stræde. The hiking trail runs for approximately 64 kilometres from Køge Bugt to Vellerup Vig through landscapes shaped by natural and cultural history. Along the entire route, there are approximately 80 information boards with short texts about nature, culture and local history.

Hedebostien is a 21.7-kilometre-long cycling and walking trail running from Køge Bugt near Trylleskoven to Roskilde. Along the route, visitors can access stories and useful information about the places they pass via signs and an app.

Nature

Brødmosen covers approximately 7.5 hectares and is located in the southernmost part of Greve Municipality. The area contains former peat cuttings that are permanently or temporarily filled with water. On the surface of the bog or above open water float relatively rare plant communities made up of intertwined roots and stems, known as “hængesække”. Brødmosen is protected as a natural area under Section 3 of Danish nature conservation law. Protected great crested newts and moor frogs occur there; both are listed in Annex IV of the EU Habitats Directive.

Greve Skov is a state forest between Greve Landsby and Karlslunde. In the newly established forest, visitors can observe the growth of the newly established woodland. The varied landscape of Hedeland provides habitats for songbirds, waterfowl, insects, butterflies, frogs, lizards, flowers and other plants.

Hundigeparken includes a heathland that is special because of its location in close proximity to the town. In Karlslunde Mose, there is a bird-watching tower with information boards. From there, visitors can look out over the bog and observe birds at close range.

Coast and Water

Strandparken is an artificially created natural and recreational area. It extends along the coast from Avedøre Holme in the north to Spurvestien at Hundige Strand in the south, while also protecting against flooding from the sea. There are tables, barbecue areas, toilets, playgrounds, beach showers and bathing jetties. A total of twelve bathing jetties are evenly distributed along the coast.

National cycling routes N4, N6 and N9, as well as two European EuroVelo routes, run through Strandparken. Fishing is permitted in all six lakes in Strandparken. There are also paths around Olsbæk Sø, where there are three small bridges. One of them is equipped with benches for relaxation and recreational fishing. Mosede Mose has recreational paths, ponds and a fishing platform.

Culture and History

Greve Museum displays Hedebo embroidery, which in the 19th century was regarded as a symbol of the outstanding craftsmanship of Denmark’s rural population. The museum also has a café serving lunch and freshly brewed coffee.

At Mosede Fort, the exhibition “On the Brink of War – Neutrality between Warfare and Welfare” shows how the First World War shaped everyday life for the Danes and how Denmark maintained its neutrality during the four years of war. The authentic coastal fort Mosede Fort in Greve has atmospheric, well-preserved casemates that visitors can explore.

Mosede Fort is a five-minute walk from Karlslunde Station. Lines E and A run to and from Karlslunde Station. Along Køge Bugt, national cycling route 9 is also part of the international Berlin–Copenhagen cycle route.
