Pernek is situated in a mountainous setting on the edge of the Šumava and approximately 1 km from the left bank of the Lipno I Reservoir. The village therefore combines a distinctive landscape setting with a clearly recognizable historic townscape.
History
Pernek was first mentioned in writing in 1445 and is a regularly laid-out medieval hoof village. A fire in June 1931 significantly influenced the urban structure of Pernek.
Landscape
One of the area's distinctive natural features is the Jeffrey pine “Borovice Jeffreyova – Pernek”, a solitary veteran specimen with a regular crown. Špičák is located near Pernek and is a mountain. The surrounding area also includes Smrčina [Horní Planá], Hochficht and Plechý, all of which are mountains.
Surroundings
Chlumany is an ancient site in the vicinity of Pernek. The ruins of Hausberk Castle lie 1.5 km northwest of Pernek. Hausberk watch castle was first mentioned in 1310; the remains include sections of wall and the foundations of a tower.
The wider regional surroundings of Pernek include the Schiffler Chapel and Haslach Parish Church, both churches.

The cycling tour “Kolem Vltavy na přítoku Lipenské přehrady” leads to Pernek via cycle route no. 33 – Šumavská magistrála. No České dráhy services are available at Pernek-Hory railway station.
