History and Culture

The historic spa and bathing complex of Stubičke Toplice was built between 1811 and 1814 by Zagreb Bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovac. The Chapel of St. Catherine on Kapelščak was built in 1814 by Bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovac for the nearby spa and serves as a parish church. It is listed as a preventive-protected cultural asset.

In the park of the Parish Church of St. Catherine lies Bethlehem Cave, with a permanent exhibition of nativity scenes and the Tomb of Christ. In summer, the Mali Ulični Festival is a street art event featuring performances, workshops, and music.

Nature

Stubičke Toplice lies in a landscape where the wooded slopes of Medvednica descend toward the thermal springs. Eighty percent of the municipality lies within Medvednica Nature Park.

Vladimir Horvat built the 500 stone steps of Horvatove Stube by hand between 1946 and 1953. From Pila in Stubičke Toplice, the steps can be reached via a one-hour hike. The Horvatove Stube area contains karst caves, shafts, sinking waters, rocks, sinkholes, and karren.

Trails

The Kamenjak Historical and Educational Trail is 1,200 meters long and has an elevation difference of 87 meters. Along the trail are rest areas and information boards about local biodiversity; it can be used for outdoor school activities. The trail leads to the Galženjak Oak, a protected natural monument associated in local oral tradition with the 1573 peasant uprising.

Bodies of Water

Lake Jarki is used for recreation in nature, fishing tourism, and activities at an outdoor school. It can be reached on foot via historic Kapelščak and along a forest road; it lies between the forests of Medvednica Nature Park. Next to Lake Jarki stands a wooden fishing hut for various activities.

Cycling

The Stubičke Toplice cycling route is 10 kilometers long, is designed as an easy circular ride, and starts in the center of Stubičke Toplice.
