Sun Peaks: Ski Terrain, Cross-Country Skiing and Activities
Accommodation in Sun Peaks
Sun Peaks combines extensive ski terrain with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and activities throughout the year. If you’re looking for accommodation for your ski holiday, you can start by considering which offerings will shape your stay: the ski terrain, other winter activities from the village, or trails and recreation options in summer.
Ski Terrain and Winter Activities
The ski terrain in Sun Peaks covers 4,400 acres and extends across Tod Mountain, Sundance Mountain and Mount Morrisey. These three names refer to the mountains across which the terrain is spread. This gives you a concrete starting point for planning your trip and understanding the scale of the ski offerings.
The resort has an extensive network of trails for snowshoeing. Guided tours and options for independent outings are available; the offerings are seasonal and available in winter. This means you can plan snowshoeing as a separate activity alongside skiing, without treating the two as the same offering.
Tracked and groomed cross-country ski trails lead directly from Sun Peaks Village and many accommodations. If cross-country skiing is important to your plans, check current trail grooming before setting out. The trails complement the snowshoeing options, offering another way to get out on the trails around Sun Peaks in winter.
Mountain Man Dog Sled & Snowmobile Adventures offers dog-sled tours in Sun Peaks. Another seasonal option is a horse-drawn sleigh ride: it first travels at a leisurely pace through the village, then through open areas with views of the valley and mountains, before returning along a gentle ski run. The two types of tour therefore differ both in their mode of transport and in the route described.
Summer: Bike Park, Hiking Trails and Golf
The Sun Peaks Bike Park spans two mountains and is served by two chairlifts. It offers more than 89 kilometres of trails and 595 metres of lift-served vertical. These figures describe the size of the bike offering and its vertical drop; operating details may vary seasonally. Mount Morrisey also has a cross-country trail network that can be accessed under your own power.
Sun Peaks has 22 trails for hiking, ranging from relaxed strolls to challenging summit hikes. The number may change as the resort updates its trail network. Hikes can start directly in the village. Family-friendly valley trails also connect neighbourhoods in the Sun Peaks community; the village also has a trail reserved exclusively for pedestrians.
Golf enthusiasts will find British Columbia’s highest-elevation 18-hole golf course in Sun Peaks. The fairways are at 1,200 metres above sea level, and the highest tee is at 1,333 metres. Alongside hiking and biking, this provides more specific options to choose from for a summer stay.
Village Life and Seasonal Experiences
During the summer months, a farmers’ market takes place in Sun Peaks Village. Local farmers, ranchers and artisans offer sustainable fruit and vegetables, local meat, seafood, crafts and other products. The market combines shopping with a glimpse of local offerings, but is limited to the summer months.
The Sun Peaks Centre is a covered outdoor stage for live music. For trail rides, Sun Peaks Stables offers small-group outings for everyone from beginners to advanced riders. Advance booking is required. If you include these activities in your trip plans, note their different requirements: the market is seasonal, and trail rides must be booked in advance.
