Riezlern: Winter Trails and Experiences in the Village

Riezlern combines winter activities with trails, nature destinations, and family attractions located either directly in the village or along documented routes. The Kanzelwand cable car is situated in the village center. At the foot of the Kanzelwand cable car, CrystalGround offers opportunities for snowboarding and freeskiing in winter. Village Trails, Nature, and Longer Routes

The Walser Cultural Trail: Riezlern Village Circuit begins directly in the village center. If you would like to plan a longer route, the circular hike through the Breitach Gorge follows a precisely described course: It leads from Riezlern, Walserschanz, via Zwingsteg, Sesselweg, Alpe Dornach, Klamm Chapel, and the Breitach Gorge ticket office back to Riezlern, Walserschanz.

The Schwand Nature Experience Site complements the trails with specific areas for spending time. It features a basin for arm baths, a gravel-bottomed water-treading basin, and a rest area with wooden loungers. The large Schwarzwasserbach Nature Explorer Adventure leads from Schröflesäge along the Schwarzwasserbach to the natural bridge and places another focus on experiencing nature.

Activities with Children

The Burmiwasser Trail leads from the mountain station of the Kanzelwand to Lake Riezler Alpsee. At various stations, there are pools, water wheels, and sluices where children can experiment with water. The stroller-friendly Burmi Trail also runs along the Breitach from Hirschegg to Riezlern and offers nine play and activity stations along the Breitach Trail.

Several different destinations are also located within the village itself. Riezlern Outdoor Pool has a 50-meter swimming lane and a 59-meter water slide. The walk to Riezlern Children's Playground leads through the village center and past the children's playground in the spa park. In WalserPark Riezlern, the BikeArea offers opportunities for first attempts at riding and playful training with your own bicycle.

Culture in Riezlern

The present-day Parish Church of Maria Opferung was rebuilt in 1889 in the neo-Romanesque style. In the parish church, Martin von Feuerstein created paintings in the casein technique together with his master class in 1903/1904. The baptismal font of Riezlern Parish Church bears Gothic ornaments and the year 1608.

In the Riezlern-Schwende district stands the Fatima Chapel Maria Dank, built in 1950. Its interior features frescoes and stained-glass windows by Vorarlberg artist Hubert Berchtold. Historical buildings and works of art thus complement the village's winter and nature-oriented destinations.
