Ulrichsberg: Cross-country skiing, culture and landscape
Accommodation in Ulrichsberg
Ulrichsberg offers several clearly distinct focal points for planning a trip: cross-country skiing, culture, views and landscape history. If you are looking for accommodation for a ski holiday, you can match your planned travel dates to your own priorities. Cross-country skiing is a specific winter sports option; cultural and landscape-related themes offer additional ways to explore the area.
Cross-country skiing and winter planning
The Böhmerwald Nordic Centre has 78 kilometres of trails. The cross-country skiing season lasts an average of more than 100 days; snow conditions vary. The average therefore gives a rough indication of the season, but does not guarantee conditions for your specific travel dates. Check conditions for your chosen dates before travelling. Beginners can get tips from experienced cross-country ski instructors at the centre; equipment is also available to rent on site. Two questions are important when planning: Does the season fit your travel dates, and what support or equipment might a beginner need? Check in advance whether rentals and tips are available.
Culture between history and events
The Ulrichsberg Local History and Culture House is housed in the old town hall dating from 1660 and has a glass collection with more than 600 exhibits. The building thus combines a historic setting with a clearly defined collection theme. In winter, guided tours for groups are available by prior arrangement. Check before your visit whether this option is available for your dates. The Ulrichsberg Jazz Atelier presents events in music, film and visual art. The cultural offerings therefore have distinct focuses: the glass collection is at the heart of the Local History and Culture House, while the Jazz Atelier brings together several art forms in its programme.
Views and landscape history
The Moldaublick observation tower offers views of the Lipno Reservoir and the birthplace of Adalbert Stifter in Horní Planá (Czechia). The view thus connects a landscape feature with a biographical and cultural point of interest. On the Sonniger Steig trail, you walk through strip fields characteristic of the Mühlviertel cultural landscape. They reflect the systematic development and division of the limited land that took place in the Middle Ages. The field pattern thus illustrates a historical form of land use. The information boards along the Torfau Round Trail also address the landscape, but cover a broader range of topics: they explore the landscape history of the village of Seitelschlag, crop rotation, wildlife and plant habitats, peat extraction and monoculture. Those interested in land use and habitats will find a different perspective here than in the view from the tower.
A seasonal difference
The BÖHMERWALDPARK lies on the border between Ulrichsberg and Julbach. From April to October, it offers games, sports and numerous attractions for all generations. This is a different seasonal focus from cross-country skiing: while its season lasts an average of more than 100 days and snow conditions vary, the park is open during the period from April to October. You can use this timeframe when planning a visit to the park; for cross-country skiing, you should also take the current snow conditions into account.
