Hinterstoder: Ski Resort, Trails and Excursion Destinations

Hinterstoder offers a clearly defined range of winter sports activities for a skiing holiday, as well as many independent destinations throughout the Stodertal valley. The Hinterstoder ski resort includes the Hannes Trinkl World Cup piste and a permanent race course. The Hutterer Höss ski resort covers 40 kilometres of pistes and has 14 lifts between 600 and 2,000 metres above sea level.

The Hannes Trinkl World Cup piste and the permanent race course represent a specific part of the offerings at the Hinterstoder ski resort. Another special feature is the SNOWtrail, a family adventure piste with a wave track, steep bends and obstacles. These documented offerings complement the general piste and lift facilities at Hutterer Höss and show that the ski resort caters to different forms of skiing.

Landscape between the source of the Steyr and the Großer Priel

Hinterstoder lies in the source region of the Steyr River at the foot of the Großer Priel, Kleiner Priel and Spitzmauer mountains. The Stodertal valley is a distinctive trough valley with remnants of a pre-glacial valley floor. This landscape also shapes the destinations away from the pistes. The Höss Alpin circuit has two viewing platforms, reaches an elevation of 2,000 metres and offers a 360° mountain panorama.

For a very easy hike, one route leads from the tourist office in Hinterstoder to Schiederweiher. Schiederweiher was built in 1902 by the Imperial and Royal court master builder Schieder and is a recreational area for locals and visitors in the Stodertal valley. Another circular hiking trail starts at the Jaidhof inn, leads to the Jaidhauser viewpoint and the Hubertus Chapel, and returns to the starting point. There are benches at the Jaidhauser viewpoint, from where the view extends across Hinterstoder.

Historic trails and cultural destinations

The Flötzersteig follows historic routes from St. Pankraz to the source of the Steyr and reaches the centre of Hinterstoder. Many sections still follow the old routes used by the historic log drivers. The Stromboding Waterfall is also part of this history: it was a key point for the historic log drivers.

The Alpineum Hinterstoder tells the history of the Stodertal valley and presents the development of skiing from its beginnings to the present-day World Cup. Guided tours are also available outside opening hours on request. The Catholic parish church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Hinterstoder is a listed monument and complements the town's cultural attractions.

More experiences in the Stodertal valley

The Kreidelucke near Hinterstoder is a natural cave without walkways or artificial lighting. Entry is generally prohibited there; you can experience the cave up close only as part of this tour. For families and groups with different interests, the Hinterstoder Summer Adventure World at Löger Hütt'n offers a gemstone panning station where you can search for precious stones. The Summer Adventure World also includes a disc golf course.

During the hiking season, the Tälerbus connects the village of Hinterstoder with the hiking areas in Polsterlucke and Dietlgut and extends as far as Baumschlagerreith.
