Bach in the Lechtal: Winter Trails and Mountain Nature
Accommodation in Bach
In winter, the village has groomed cross-country ski trails and winter hiking paths. There is also the Jöchelspitzbahn from Stockach, the Jöchelspitze Botanical Nature Trail and the Lechweg. When choosing where to stay on your holiday, it helps to distinguish between these offerings: the trails for cross-country skiing and winter hiking form one focus, while the gondola lift starts in Stockach and the Madauer Höhenweg is currently closed.
Cross-Country Skiing and Winter Hiking
In winter, Bach has groomed cross-country ski trails; grooming depends on the prevailing winter conditions. Winter hiking paths complement the seasonal offering, and their conditions change with the winter weather. For planning your day, these are two different ways to get around: you can plan to ski on a cross-country trail or walk along a winter hiking path. Check the conditions for the specific activity before setting out. This lets you tailor your choice to the conditions on the day.
Jöchelspitzbahn and Bus Connection
The Jöchelspitzbahn gondola lift runs from Stockach in the Lechtal up to an altitude of 1,800 metres; it operates seasonally. If you are planning a ride, check the specific operating dates. The stated validity period for bus route 111 ran from 12 June to 4 October 2026. During this period, the route connected Gramais, the Jöchelspitzbahn, Bach, Holzgau, Steeg and Kaisers, as well as the return direction. For travel dates after 4 October 2026, consult the current timetable and distinguish the seasonal information for the gondola lift from the bus connection, which is available for a limited period.
Trails with Different Requirements
The Jöchelspitze Botanical Nature Trail passes the Mountain Hay Museum and ends at the turnoff to the Alpenrosensteig. The route description therefore includes a museum as an intermediate point and a clearly named endpoint.
The Madauer Höhenweg runs from Bach to Madau and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area. The trail is currently closed, requires sure-footedness and is suitable only for experienced hikers. If you are considering it at a later date, check the current access situation in advance and take these requirements into account when planning your hike.
Nature, Culture and Other Activities
Bach lies in the heart of the Lechtal Nature Park region. A section of the Lechweg between Holzgau and Elbigenalp passes through Bach’s rich and idyllic natural surroundings. For route planning, this means that a specific section of the trail is associated with Bach, not just any part of the Lechweg.
The municipality of Bach/Stockach is home to two music bands and the local marksmen’s association, which are established parts of its cultural life. The description of the village therefore covers a cultural aspect as well as nature and outdoor activities. If local culture matters to you when choosing a holiday destination, this offers a distinct point of reference.
The Bach paragliding centre “On Air” offers a wide range of courses.
