Kramsach: Culture, Lakes and Trails for Your Travel Planning

Kramsach combines special cultural sites with nature experiences around Lake Reintal. If you are looking for accommodation for a varied trip, you can combine historic rural culture, art, walks along the lakeshore and active pursuits here.

Culture and History in Kramsach

One notable cultural site is the Tyrolean Museum Cemetery in Kramsach. There you can see more than 100 grave crosses dating from five centuries, some of them featuring curious inscriptions. The decorative pieces of old metalwork also bear sayings and earthy, warm-hearted words of wisdom that are regarded as testimony to the Alpine region’s rustic folk humour. The Museum Cemetery thus offers an unusual approach to memorial culture and regional craftsmanship.

The Tyrolean Farmsteads Museum comprises 14 original preserved farmsteads and 23 outbuildings from all over Tyrol. You can explore the buildings inside and out. A 1.5-hour tour leads through Tyrol’s historic rural culture. Children can enjoy games, quiz stations, puzzles and interactive elements. At the end of September, the museum holds the Great Church Fair every year.

Hilariberg also complements the historical focus. In the centre of the chapel, beneath a baldachin, is the devotional image “Mariahilf auf dem Hilariberg”, a copy of the devotional image from the Church of “Santa Maria della Bruna” in Naples. In 1689, Brother Hilarion a Sancto Sebastiano built a small Marian chapel with a hermitage on the debris cone of the Pletzach rockfall near Kramsach in Tyrol. Near Mariathal Basilica on the Brandenberger Ache, Kramsach artist Alois Schild also created a total work of art with the sculpture park.

Lake Reintal: Trails and Nature by the Water

Lake Reintal is the largest of the Kramsach lakes. Its water temperatures reach up to 25°C. A hiking trail leads around the lake, so you can also combine your stay with a walk along the shore. At Lake Reintal, there is an accessible hiking trail directly along the lakeshore for wheelchair users, people with rollators and parents with pushchairs. This trail is flat, well maintained and has regular rest areas.

This means that Lake Reintal can also be included in your daily plans when not all travellers have the same interests or physical abilities. Plan the flat lakeshore trail as a separate activity if your travel group has differing interests or physical abilities.

Active Experiences with Different Requirements

For a more sporty programme, Sport Ossi offers river tubing on the Brandenberger Ache in Kramsach. The family tour is just over 1.5 kilometres long, while the “XL Action Tour” is 3.5 kilometres. At the whitewater sports centre, beginners can also gain their first paddling experience. A beginner’s kayaking course teaches techniques and the correct behaviour in whitewater.

Anyone planning the Lake Reintal via ferrata should take the approach and the required equipment into account. The approach trail starts east of the “Kramsach Parkplatz Halbinsel” bus stop and leads through the forest for 20 minutes to the belay point and onwards to the start. A helmet, via ferrata set, climbing harness and sturdy footwear are required for the route.

Which Accommodation Suits Your Trip?

When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Kramsach, you can first decide on the focus of your stay. For those interested in culture, the Museum Cemetery, the Tyrolean Farmsteads Museum, the chapel on Hilariberg and the sculpture park are the main attractions. If you want to spend plenty of time outdoors, Lake Reintal, the lakeshore trail and the activities on the Brandenberger Ache offer different options. For a trip with children, the interactive stations at the Tyrolean Farmsteads Museum are a specific activity; for travellers with wheelchairs, rollators or pushchairs, the described trail at Lake Reintal is relevant.

If you would like to include other places in your search in addition to Kramsach, you can also compare Oberau, Erl, Niederndorf, Thiersee, Bad Häring, Mariastein, Reith Im Alpbachtal and Breitenbach Am Inn.
