Sankt Blasen – Accommodation for Hiking, Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Sankt Blasen
Sankt Blasen offers a combination of forest paths, cycling routes, nature experiences and regional history for planning your trip. If you are looking for accommodation, you can choose the focus of your stay according to whether you want to explore the area on foot, go mountain biking, enjoy a family activity or discover sites of cultural and historical interest. Several paths lead to or through St. Blasen; there are also specific destinations such as Podolerteich, MĂĽhlsteinboden and St. Blasius Church.
Hiking amid Forest, Views and Nature Park
The “Ice Age – The Glacier at a Dead End” circular trail runs through the area between St. Blasen and the Thajagraben. The “Ice Age – The Glacier at a Dead End” circular trail can be reached by public transport. The final section of the Lois Steiner Trail leads through the forest to the reading garden by the church in Sankt Blasen. Along the trail, there are views towards Kalkberg, Mühlsteinboden and Zirbitzkogel.
Another route is “Around Roßeck”. It leads through the forest and past a disused arsenic tunnel. Anyone wishing to combine their stay with a longer hiking itinerary will find an additional option in the Via Natura: the second stage leads from St. Lambrecht to St. Blasen. The third stage begins in Sankt Blasen; a public car park is available for this purpose at the Kirchmoar inn.
Cycling Routes and a Challenging Single Trail
There are also various starting points for planning a cycling trip. The St. Blasen Cycling Trail leads from St. Lambrecht via Heiligenstadt to St. Blasen and then returns to the starting point via the cycling path. The MĂĽhlsteinboden Tour also leads via Heiligenstadt to St. Blasen and then climbs via switchbacks to MĂĽhlsteinboden. A small pilgrimage chapel is located there, where you can take a break.
The MĂĽhlsteinboden single trail ends in the village of St. Blasen in the municipality of St. Lambrecht. It is technically challenging and is considered a trail for advanced mountain bikers. This also allows you to choose your accommodation based on whether you want to include a hike, a cycling tour or a technically demanding mountain bike trail in your plans.
Culture and Regional Experiences
St. Blasius Church in Sankt Blasen has been documented since 1126; the present building was constructed between 1718 and 1721. The Catholic branch church of St. Blasius and the Hinterbach cemetery in the cadastral area of St. Blasen are protected monuments. The reading garden by the church is located along the final section of the Lois Steiner Trail and can therefore be incorporated into a hiking plan without implying a specific length of stay.
For families and riders with different levels of experience, Schilcherhof offers guided rides in the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park for experienced riders. Horse trekking excursions for beginners and the whole family are also offered. Another regional stop is the StrauĂźenhof Wallner snack station in Sankt Blasen, where tastings of products related to ostriches are offered.
Nature Destinations for Planning Your Stay
Podolerteich, a forest pond in the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park at an elevation of 1,050 metres, is located in the surroundings of Sankt Blasen. This destination complements the trails and cultural attractions with a natural area at a clearly specified altitude. When looking for accommodation, you can therefore consider which of the activities mentioned should be the focus of your stay and which trails or excursion destinations you would like to combine.
If you would like to expand your search to include additional destinations, you can also compare Krakauschatten, Frojach-Katsch, Sankt Marein Bei Neumarkt, Zeutschach, Mühlen, Sankt Lambrecht, Wildbad Einöd and Ranten.
