Stuhlfelden: Ski Arena, Gaisstein and hiking destinations
Accommodation in Stuhlfelden
Stuhlfelden has a distinct winter focus: the Platzhausleitn Ski Arena is located right in the village. Hiking and cultural destinations, as well as seasonal leisure activities, round out the village’s profile. When looking for a ski hotel or other accommodation, you can consider your preferred activity and travel dates together.
Platzhausleitn Ski Arena in the village
The ski arena has a snowmaking system and a small lift for first attempts at skiing. If taking your first steps on skis is part of your holiday plans, this is a specific local option. Opening hours and snow conditions depend on the season. Check the current situation before planning your stay around the facility.
Mountain scenery and the Waldkapelle
Stuhlfelden lies between the Hohe Tauern and the KitzbĂĽhel Alps, at the foot of the 2,363-metre-high Gaisstein. The summit is considered the highest of the Pinzgau Grass Mountains. The listed Waldkapelle chapel is a destination for less experienced hikers and offers views over Stuhlfelden. Trail conditions can vary by season; bear this in mind when planning your hike.
Archery, outdoor pool and other destinations
Stuhlfelden has two different archery courses, each with 28 targets. The Scheibelberg archery course is on the sunny side of the Salzach Valley in the municipality and is open from April to October. Check that it is open before you arrive. There is also a free practice area that can be used at any time; no rental equipment is available at the practice area. The heated Stuhlfelden adventure pool is an outdoor pool with a 200 m² swimming pool and a 300 m² leisure pool. It operates seasonally. The Hohe Tauern National Park golf course is also partly within the municipality of Stuhlfelden.
Lichtenau Castle and local culture
Lichtenau Castle is a listed castle located a few metres east of the Maria Himmelfahrt pilgrimage church. It is also used for cultural purposes; at the same time, the building houses institutional facilities that are not intended for visitors. The castle is therefore part of the village’s cultural landscape, but its cultural use should not be taken to mean that it is generally open to visitors.
Travel by train
Stuhlfelden can be reached by regional train from Zell am See, which is served by international trains. If you plan to travel by train, take the connection into account when planning your accommodation. Timetables and services may change, so check the latest connections before your trip.
Match your travel dates to your accommodation search
The activities also differ in their seasonal availability: the Scheibelberg archery course is listed as open from April to October, while the outdoor pool operates seasonally. The ski arena’s opening hours and snow conditions depend on the season; trail conditions can also vary. When searching for accommodation, first decide which activity will be the main focus of your stay. You can then plan your travel dates around it and take the relevant conditions into account.
