Grubing: Ski holiday with direct access to KitzSki
Grubing combines the documented winter access to the KitzSki ski area with activities for children, hiking trails, and excursion destinations away from the slopes. When choosing accommodation, the location in relation to the valley station of the panoramic cable car is particularly relevant: it is located in Hollersbach, in the Grubing district, and provides direct access to the ski area in winter. The distance from a specific accommodation to the valley station should always be considered separately.
Winter access via the panoramic cable car
The panoramic cable car is a monocable circulating lift with two sections. The journey is therefore divided into two consecutive stages. After 12 minutes, the lift reaches the Resterkogel mountain station at an altitude of 1,892 metres. For skiers, the facility is the southernmost entry point to the KitzSki ski area. In winter, it provides direct access to around 170 kilometres of excellently groomed pistes. The journey to the valley station can also be planned according to different priorities. The valley station has rail and bus connections and is located directly on the Salzachtal Cycle Path. Those arriving by car or bus will find more than 600 parking spaces at the panoramic cable car. This means that several documented access routes are available for families with equipment or groups using different means of transport. However, the information does not prove that every accommodation can be reached on foot from the valley station.Family activities in Grubing
In addition to the ski area, Grubing offers specific activities for children. The KUHOBA holiday programme KIDS ART WEEK is aimed at children aged six and over and takes place for one week in July and one week in August. The KUHOBA Kids WORKSHOP is aimed at children aged five to ten who play outdoors. It takes place on the first Monday of every month. KUHOBA workshops for children and adults can be booked on request. They should therefore not be understood as general childcare or as a ski school programme. Those travelling with children can supplement their planned days of skiing with a separate programme, but must take the respective age requirements and the workshop date into account.Trails, water, and mountain views
The panoramic cable car also provides access to a well-developed hiking area with views of the core zone of Hohe Tauern National Park. At the Resterkogel reservoir, a water education trail explains the importance of water for the habitat around Resterkogel. A viewing platform at the reservoir offers a panoramic place to rest as well as a photo spot with mountain views of the Hohe Tauern. Another educational trail follows the Hollersbach stream to the Wirtsalm. Ten information panels explain the birds found by the stream, native fish, the power of water, and rocks. These topics make the stream trail an independent opportunity to learn about the landscape in depth, without limiting a visit to the ski slopes. This does not entail any specific seasonal opening or a particular walking time, and neither is assumed here.Culture and handicraft activities
The Hollersbach herb garden is part of the supplementary programme. It is freely accessible for self-guided visits; individual guided tours are possible on request. The KUHOBA workshop regularly offers courses on various topics. The Klausnerhaus is a typically built Pinzgau farmhouse with a rubble-stone wall and wooden upper and attic floors. This allows a stay in Grubing to be planned in several ways: winter access leads via the panoramic cable car into the KitzSki ski area, children’s activities have their own age and date requirements, and educational trails, the herb garden, and the workshop complement the stay with nature and cultural themes.
