The Hinterreit family ski area is located in Almdorf, 5760 Saalfelden. This includes watching paragliders from the village square, the S05 Notburga Trail pilgrimage route and a loop suitable for gravel bikes. You can weigh up these topics depending on whether you are more interested in local history, a route or cycling.

Paragliders on Almdorfer Berg

Paragliders take off from Almdorfer Berg; you can watch them from the village square in Almdorf. This clearly distinguishes two local reference points: the mountain is the take-off site, and the village square is the viewing point. If you would like to include this in your day’s plans, a specific spot for watching has been identified.

Almdorf Chapel and the Notburga Trail

Almdorf Chapel is a listed religious monument in the hamlet of Almdorf. After the building had fallen into disrepair, it was rebuilt in 1715 at the expense of Eva Schwaiger, the widow of the Lettlgut estate, with the help of the villagers, and on a larger scale. The chapel received its licence to celebrate Mass in 1719. Inside is a Baroque altarpiece with a carved figure of the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child. Its history thus includes both a major reconstruction and a later ecclesiastical milestone; the altarpiece adds a detail about the interior to the historical information.

During the pilgrimage event on 11 October 2025, the S05 Notburga Trail led from Taxau Chapel via Oedt and the B164 towards Almdorf and Almdorf Chapel. From there, the route continued towards Niederhaus and uphill to Ritzensee. The sequence of the route places several named locations along the way. For orientation, the chapel is therefore both a protected small monument and part of the route described for this pilgrimage event.

Routes starting from and passing through Almdorf

At Almdorf’s small village square, follow the “MA 06 | Hinterreit Loop” signs to the Hinterreit mountain inn. For this route, both the starting point and the destination are specified: the route begins at the village square and leads to the mountain inn. The scenic Prinzensee Loop offers different pointers to help you choose a tour. It passes through Almdorf on its way to Maria Alm, has a high proportion of gravel and asphalt, and is ideal for gravel bikes. While MA 06 points towards the Hinterreit mountain inn, the Prinzensee Loop’s stated surfaces and connection to gravel bikes make the nature of the tour clear.

Farming in Almdorf

Organic spelt and organic rye are grown at the Jagglhof in Almdorf. This adds farming as a specific local topic alongside the chapel, pilgrimage trail and routes. If you are considering Almdorf for your stay, these different aspects of the area can help you weigh up your interests in local history, trails and agricultural cultivation.
