Eberstein – Culture, Nature and Trails
Accommodation in Eberstein
Eberstein offers a combination of culture, the Felsentor natural monument, hiking trails and a winter option when choosing accommodation. The destinations mentioned have different connections to the surrounding places: some are located in Eberstein, while others are associated with St. Oswald or Hohenfeistritz. This allows you to plan your trip according to the experiences you want, without assuming an unverified proximity between your accommodation and any individual attraction.
Culture and historical sites
Eberstein Castle towers above Eberstein. The complex covers 6,000 m² and is a prominent cultural feature of the village. The parish church of Hohenfeistritz provides a distinct historical highlight: it is a Late Gothic fortified church complex with a gate tower and wall tower, located at an altitude of around 1,000 m on a foothill of the Saualpe and built as a unified structure between 1446 and 1491. Justinus Mulle, Gerhard Glawischnig and Günther Mittergradnegger were active at the Carinthian Folk Song House. The Song Fountain stands in front of the building. At the push of a button, it plays the songs of the honored creators of Carinthian folk songs. The former silver mine on the Silberschatzweg trail points to another historical topic associated with mining. It dates from the 16th century and is now preserved as a remaining cavern measuring 3 × 2 m. The term “former” is important here: what is documented is not a mine operating today, but its preserved remains.Trails and natural monuments
The Felsentor rock arch in Eberstein is an officially certified natural monument. The rock arch is 16 m wide and 11 m high. A signposted hiking trail leads to the Felsentor in about 20 minutes. This specifies an approximate walking time for this particular trail; it does not establish any further distances or a specific starting point. The Eberstein Wild Boar Trail is designed as a circular walk. It includes a treetop viewing platform, an observation point at a safe distance and a wild boar school. The Bible Trail in Eberstein comprises 15 stations and ends at a Kneipp pool high above Eberstein. There are also several trail options in St. Oswald. The Silberschatzweg trail in St. Oswald is a circular route that begins at the meeting garden of the Biolandhaus ARCHE. The Steinmarquelle and Kneipp Pool circular trail leads from St. Oswald via the Steinmar healing spring to the Kneipp pool and back again.Hiking, mountain biking and regional character
Eberstein is an ideal starting point for extensive hikes and varied mountain bike tours. The Görtschitztal Trail (R7A) is a longer connection: it runs for around 64 kilometres from Klagenfurt via Eberstein to Hüttenberg. The route is therefore described as a continuous course between these named places. The Carinthian Blond Cattle is another part of the region’s distinctive character. Eberstein is home to this ancient cattle breed of Carinthia. This connection adds a special feature of regional agriculture to the cultural and landscape themes.A winter option
For uphill tobogganing, specially converted and safety-tested toboggans are available for hire at the Steinerhütte. However, this does not support any statements about a ski area, slopes, lifts or snow reliability in Eberstein. Other destinations include [Eggen](Eggen), [Knappenberg](Knappenberg), [Liebenfels](Liebenfels), [Deutsch Griffen](Deutsch Griffen), [Flattnitz](Flattnitz) and [Glödnitz](Glödnitz). For the broader travel overview: Sankt Veit An Der Glan.
