Rudersdorf: Heritage, the Lafnitz and regional production
Accommodation in Rudersdorf
Rudersdorf combines a historic village character with the landscape along the Lafnitz and regional production. Notable features include listed buildings, Gründerzeit facades, river floodplains and preserved meanders. The production of pumpkin seed oil at the Fritz-Mühle is also part of the local character.
Listed buildings and facades
The Federal Monuments Authority’s register dated 19 June 2026 lists the former castle and Sattler textile factory, the Finkhaus farmstead, the Evangelical school and prayer house, and the Catholic parish church of St Florian in Rudersdorf as protected monuments. Also notable are the elaborately decorated Gründerzeit facades of many houses. Most date from around the turn of the 19th to the 20th century; the majority have been preserved and carefully restored.
The parish church was completed in 1862 and dedicated to St Florian. The castle developed from a stately farmstead. In 1750, Count Emmerich Batthyany also had a manor house with a farmyard built in Rudersdorf. Thus, sacred architectural history, historic farmsteads and house facades stand side by side as distinct aspects of the village character.
The Lafnitz landscape and activities
A nature trail leads through river floodplains, mixed forests and vineyards. Above the Fritz-Mühle, the Lafnitz meanders have been preserved as far as Deutsch Kaltenbrunn. The trail passes through several types of landscape, while the preserved meanders add a distinctive feature to the river. If you would like to plan your trip around the scenery, you can weigh up these two highlights.
Rudersdorf has well-maintained cycle paths. As local route conditions can change, check the current conditions before setting out on a particular ride. Fishing is also possible on the Lafnitz in Rudersdorf; check the current permits and rules in advance. Cycling and fishing are additional interests you can include in your plans independently of the nature trail.
Regional production
Pumpkin seed oil has been traditionally produced at the Fritz-Mühle in Rudersdorf for more than 100 years. Visitors can tour the production process, taste the oil and buy it there. Another example of regional production is the Hirmann vinegar manufactory and distillery in Rudersdorf-Berg: this long-established family business makes vinegars and fine spirits from traditionally cultivated orchards. The two businesses therefore represent different products: pumpkin seed oil on the one hand, and vinegars and fine spirits on the other.

Choosing Rudersdorf as a place to stay
You can consider architectural history, the landscape and regional production as different highlights when making your choice. Listed buildings and Gründerzeit facades reflect the historic village character; the nature trail and the Lafnitz meanders offer other ways to experience the landscape. The Fritz-Mühle and Hirmann add regional food production to these local attractions.
