Slovenia offers alpine ski days as well as a ski resort right beside a major city. Kranjska Gora lies in the Julian Alps on Mount Vitranc, while Mariborsko Pohorje combines wooded slopes with Maribor. When choosing, it is therefore important to consider whether you prefer a mountain resort or city accommodation with a short journey to the ski area.

Kranjska Gora: pistes on Mount Vitranc
In the Kranjska Gora area, lifts and runs stretch across the slopes of Mount Vitranc towards Rateče-Planica. Five chairlifts and eight other lifts serve pistes at elevations of 800 to 1,215 metres. Snežna plaža lies between the hotels and the pistes, making access to the ski area directly connected to the hotel district.
Podkoren is a distinct area worth considering when comparing pistes; Mojstrana also appears on the regional piste map. Ski schools offer lessons for first turns, and the area is also geared towards families.
Mariborsko Pohorje: skiing by the city
The Mariborsko Pohorje offers a different kind of trip. With 41.5 kilometres of pistes, it is Slovenia's largest ski centre. The slopes are on the wooded Pohorje near Maribor, so you can combine a day on the slopes with a stay or an evening in the city.
