Winterberg, Willingen and Neuastenberg represent the Sauerland’s low-mountain character. In a comparison of German ski regions, they can be contrasted with alpine destinations such as the Allgäu.

Winterberg, Willingen or Neuastenberg?

At the Skiliftkarussell Winterberg, you can choose from several starting points. Beginners can use the three practice lifts at Herrloh: Herrloh I, II and III. The transfer between the local bus and ski bus is at Nordhang, on the road by car park P5, next to Brembergkopf 2.

Willingen–Ettelsberg has several starting points, including Ettelsberg, Köhlerhagen and Ritzhagen. Zur Hoppecke leads to the bottom station, Zur Ruthenaar to Köhlerhagen, and Zum Ritzhagen to the slope there. The Köhlerhagen run connects the different areas and crosses two side roads.

Neuastenberg, with the Postwiese, is a starting point in its own right. At Regenbogenland, children learn using a conveyor lift. You will need your own sled for the natural toboggan run.

Day trip or weekend?

Choose a town and lift access point that suit your ability and plans for the day. Compare journey times, road access, parking and onward travel from the railway station; travelling between areas takes extra time. For a weekend or several days of skiing, choosing one place to stay can reduce daily transfers and leave more time for lessons, breaks or other winter activities.
