Skiing in Avoriaz
Avoriaz sits at 1,800 metres in the heart of the cross-border Portes du Soleil ski area. From the resort, pistes lead into the local ski area and on to other sectors in France and Switzerland. Which connections are actually open depends on current operating conditions.
Pistes and suitable areas
The ski area offers terrain for a range of ability levels. Beginners should look for the designated learning zones and easy runs on the official piste map; experienced skiers can check which more challenging sectors and connections are open. The Portes du Soleil ski pass covers a larger area than Avoriaz alone: compare its coverage and your return route before planning an outing.
Accommodation and access
Choose accommodation based on how you’ll reach your preferred starting point and get back at the end of the day. Check the location, luggage transport, equipment hire and ski school meeting points. If you’re planning trips to other sectors, allow time for connections and possible changes to lift operations.
Check before you set off
Before booking, check ski pass terms and current opening times. Shortly before each ski day, check the piste map, open lifts, weather and snow conditions; a connection shown on the map is no guarantee that it will be operating. The official Avoriaz piste map and ski area guide provides up-to-date information about the area.
