Skiing in the Kitzbühel Alps
Key facts
The Kitzbühel Alps are not one single ski area that can be reached equally easily from every village. When choosing where to stay, first consider whether you mainly want to ski in SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser–Brixental or at KitzSki. The areas are close to one another, but getting between them involves a journey rather than a continuous ski run. Choose accommodation to suit your main ski area, and plan any additional ski days around the actual access points.

- Brixen im Thale offers two access points to SkiWelt: Hochbrixen and the SkiWeltbahn.
- The SkiWeltbahn runs from Brixen to Choralpe and onward towards Westendorf.
- In Westendorf, the Alpenrosenbahn takes guests to Talkaser at 1,770 metres in two stages.
- Kirchberg is an important starting point for KitzSki, with access via the Fleckalmbahn, Maierlbahn and Pengelstein lifts.
- SkiWelt and KitzSki are separate ski areas, connected by a shuttle bus.
Brixen and Westendorf: access to SkiWelt
Two gondola lifts take you from Brixen im Thale into SkiWelt: Hochbrixen serves the area above the village, while the SkiWeltbahn runs to Choralpe on the Westendorf side. Practice lifts and moving walkways at the valley stations give beginners and children a convenient place to get started near the village. Brixen is therefore particularly suitable if you want a central access point and to use the connection to the Westendorf side.
Westendorf has its own access from the village to Talkaser via the Alpenrosenbahn. The lift takes you to 1,770 metres in two stages. From there, the SkiWelt area lies ahead; the regional connection to KitzSki needs to be planned separately. The location of your accommodation determines whether you can walk to the valley station in the morning or need local transport. Both villages are in the Brixental valley, but their valley stations and everyday journeys are not the same.
Kirchberg and KitzSki
Kirchberg is a good base if KitzSki is your main focus. Access points there include the Fleckalmbahn, Maierlbahn and Pengelsteinbahn. Compare your specific accommodation with the valley station you plan to use on your ski days; the name “Kirchberg” alone does not tell you whether walking, taking a bus or driving will be the quickest option. For Kirchberg, KitzSki is the main attraction; for Brixen and Westendorf, it is SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser–Brixental.
If you want to combine both areas during one stay, factor the shuttle connection and the access point for each area into your daily plans. Staying close to your preferred area saves time travelling between them, while an outing to the other area remains possible.
