Dutch royal family’s ski holiday in Lech

Every ski season, the chic ski resorts of Europe and other parts of the world become meeting places for the rich and beautiful: skiing is in, even among celebrities. Whether stars from film, television and music or prominent figures from business and sport, skiing in winter is simply part of life for high society. Even Europe’s high nobility is no exception, as the example of the Dutch royal family shows: this year, once again, they are spending their ski holiday in the upscale Vorarlberg resort of Lech.

Ski holiday of the Dutch royal family

The Dutch royals have cherished Lech as a ski holiday destination for many years: for more than 50 years, the Dutch monarchs have travelled to the idyllic village, spending a total of two weeks on a ski holiday in the Arlberg region. As tradition dictates, the Dutch royals’ ski holiday in Lech includes a public photo call. The cameras were focused primarily on the youngest daughter of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his wife Máxima. The almost four-year-old Princess Ariane made her first attempts on skis without taking a fall. The other members of the Dutch royal family also cut a fine figure on the snowy slopes.

Ski holiday in Lech

The traditional photo call is the only public appearance of the Dutch heir to the throne and his family during their ski holiday in Lech: photographers invited to the photo call had to promise in advance to respect the royals’ privacy during their ski holiday. Journalists who did not make that promise were not invited to the photo shoot.

Hotel zur Post in Lech

Another longstanding tradition of the Dutch royal family is their choice of accommodation during their stay in Lech am Arlberg: as is customary, the royals stay at the Hotel Post. The Queen arrived last Saturday, and Crown Prince Willem-Alexander followed with his family on Monday. The royals’ ski holiday will continue for another week.
