Cross-Country Skiing World Cup in March 2011
The highlight of the cross-country skiing season is undoubtedly the 2011 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, which will be held in Oslo (as we reported). But the season is not over for the world’s top cross-country skiers after this major event: several important World Cup races are still scheduled for March 2011. These competitions will ultimately decide who claims the overall Cross-Country World Cup title this season.
2011 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
Lahti, Stockholm and Falun are the venues for the final Cross-Country World Cup races after the 2011 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Immediately after the World Championships in Norway, the international cross-country skiing elite will head to Finland, where a 20 km skiathlon will take place in Lahti on Saturday, March 12, 2011, followed by a classic sprint race on Sunday, March 13, 2011. After that, the cross-country skiers will remain in Scandinavia, as the World Cup finale will be held in Sweden this season.

Overall World Cup standings
The special weighting of the finale is particularly important for the overall World Cup standings: half World Cup points are awarded at the individual stages, while double points are awarded for the overall final standings. First, the men will compete in a 1.1 km classic sprint race in Stockholm on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. The next Cross-Country World Cup event will follow in Falun on Friday, March 18, 2011. A 3.3 km classic prologue will be held there, followed the next day, Saturday, March 19, 2011, by a 20 km skiathlon. The 2011 Cross-Country World Cup season will conclude with a 15 km individual freestyle race with a handicap start on Sunday, March 20, 2011. After this race, the cross-country skiing season will be over, and the overall World Cup winner can be crowned.
