Ski Touring and Adventure Holidays in the Hohe Tauern

The Hohe Tauern National Park in Austria is one of the Alps’ most enchanting winter landscapes and offers a range of alternative skiing options. This is especially true of the ski resort of Obervellach, located in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park in Carinthia’s winter sports region.

Impressive mountains

Several of the Alps’ impressive peaks between 2,000 and 3,000 metres, such as Romaten, Mellenwandkopf and Großglockner, are located around Obervellach in the Hohe Tauern National Park, making the area ideal for varied ski tours or a winter adventure holiday. Several activity days focused on ski touring and adventure holidays in the Alps are being offered again this winter in Obervellach.

“Adventure weekends” in the Hohe Tauern

The well-known “Adventure Weekends” have become a fixture in the Hohe Tauern. On the last two weekends, adventure awaits under the expert guidance of Wolfi Schupfer, an experienced sport climber and mountain guide with local knowledge. Far from the groomed slopes and cross-country trails, Schupfer leads groups through the Alps’ captivating mountain landscapes. The ultimate highlight of the Adventure Weekend in the Hohe Tauern National Park is ice climbing in the Wunzenschlucht gorge near Obervellach, where climbers take on a frozen waterfall.

Ski touring weeks for beginners

The ski touring weeks for beginners promise to be just as exciting. They are offered in Obervellach during the week of 21–28 March. These so-called “White Spirit” tours through one of Carinthia’s most charming regions are an ideal introduction to ski touring in the Alps. The White Spirit package includes, among other things, six nights in a holiday home in Obervellach, safety equipment, classroom instruction (avalanche awareness, tour planning, etc.) and daily ski tours to the summits of the surrounding Alpine giants.
