A wide range of winter sports in the Bernese Oberland
The winter season at the Gstaad Mountain Rides ski area in the Bernese Oberland runs from late October to early May. This makes the ski area around Gstaad one of the most snow-reliable regions in Switzerland, thanks primarily to its high altitude and the many surrounding mountains. For some time now, people in the Bernese Oberland have recognised that winter sports in the 21st century are about more than “just” alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing—a fact that is especially evident in Gstaad.
Glacier ski area in the Bernese Oberland
With Glacier 3000, Gstaad offers not only the only glacier ski area in the Bernese Oberland, but also one of the most varied selections of activities for the winter season. Alongside classics such as alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing on impeccably groomed pistes and trails, winter sports trends such as snow golf and snowkiting are also on offer at the Saanen ski paradise. Families with children will also feel at home in the Bernese Oberland, with activities such as sledging and snowshoe hiking. No fewer than nine sledging runs in and around Gstaad promise plenty of variety, while a more or less interconnected network of around 200 kilometres of hiking trails takes visitors into the Bernese Oberland’s impressive mountain world, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful Alpine regions.

Snow golf and snowkiting
While snow golf and snowkiting are comparatively costly hobbies, sledging and snowshoe hiking in Gstaad require considerably less effort. Anyone wishing to play it safe should join a guided snowshoe hike, as the routes often cross deep snow and lead far from the pistes and trails of the Glacier 3000 ski area. Further information about these and other winter sports activities in the Bernese Oberland is also available locally at holiday homes, ski lodges and hotels in Gstaad.
