Skiing and Snowboarding Holidays at the Hintertux Glacier

The ski area around the Hintertux Glacier in Tyrol reaches elevations of up to 3,250 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest and most snow-sure ski areas in all of Austria. Skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and other winter sports are possible at the Hintertux Glacier all year round, almost exclusively on natural snow. Like the neighboring Riepenkees, the Hintertux Glacier is exceptionally well equipped with lifts, hotels and general infrastructure, making this part of the Tyrolean Alps ideal for winter sports throughout the year.

In late summer, the Hintertux Glacier in Tyrol is also well known among hikers, who are drawn especially to the Spannagel Cave, a natural monument and the largest cave system known to date in the Central Alps. Once at the Spannagel Cave, hikers are rewarded not only with a tour through the cave’s passages, which extend for up to 10 kilometers, but also with an indescribable view over Tyrol and the Alps.

To avoid the biggest crowds on the slopes and cross-country trails at Austria’s Hintertux Glacier, book your winter holiday during the low season, no later than the end of October. Although lift queues at the Hintertux Glacier remain manageable even during the peak season around Christmas and New Year, skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing on uncrowded trails are much more enjoyable. Another welcome benefit of a low-season winter holiday is the reduced prices at holiday homes and hotels in Hintertux.
