Erzbergrodeo: Top event in Styria (Austria)

In winter, alpine skiers in Styria can choose between leisurely turns and hurtling downhill at speed. This will be turned on its head from the end of next week, when the traditional and prestigious Erzbergrodeo draws motorcyclists on their enduro bikes, along with their fans, to Styria for the 15th time. The Erzbergrodeo is all about conquering the mountain of the same name in Styria in the shortest possible time—a feat that, experience shows, only a few riders will manage, and which is what makes this motorsport event in Austria so special.

The organizers of Erzbergrodeo XV in Styria have spared no expense in this anniversary year, putting on an event of the highest caliber. The main event, the Red Bull Hare Scramble on June 14 (Sunday), is accompanied by no fewer than four supporting races. The supporting races start as early as Thursday (June 11) and are interspersed with the Red Bull Hare Scramble throughout the day until Saturday evening.

The first qualifying round is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Friday. The 500 riders who complete the 14 kilometers to the summit of Erzberg the fastest will qualify for the main race on Sunday. Anyone who wasn’t fast enough on Friday will get another chance on Saturday to improve on their time from the day before. On Sunday, the Red Bull Hare Scramble at Erzberg in Styria will finally get underway at 11 a.m., waved off by motorsport legend Heinz Kinigadner (Austria). Participants will then have four hours to conquer the 40-kilometer route up Erzberg. In recent years, only around 10% of starters have reached the finish, making the Erzbergrodeo in Styria a particularly tough challenge for enduro riders from all over the world.
