Flühr’s 11th World Record Attempt in Nonstop Skiing
At 3 a.m. on September 16, 2008, the moment arrives: ten-time ski world record holder Christian Flühr sets off on his 11th world record attempt in nonstop indoor skiing. He aims to beat his own record with 111 hours. That would be an improvement of 8 hours.
After each hour of nonstop skiing, only 5-minute breaks to ride the lift to the upper section are permitted. An independent race doctor also checks the extreme athlete’s fitness to compete every day. The doctor decides whether the ski marathon can continue. If Christian Flühr holds out, the final run will take place at around 6 p.m. on September 20, 2008. Then it will be time to celebrate victory at SnowWorld in Landgraaf, near the Dutch border and Aachen.

Science is once again involved in this world record attempt. Christian Flühr will wear devices that measure brain activity, calorie consumption and body metrics. These 75 devices are attached to the world record holder’s skin with superglue. He endures this grueling ordeal in the service of science. That takes a certain degree of ski madness.
For the coming winter, Christian Flühr is even planning two more world record attempts! At the end of the year, he wants to use around 100 ski lifts in just one day. In addition, his final outdoor ski record attempt is planned for February 2009. That would be the 13th record attempt in the career of Mr. Marathon Ski.
