A ski holiday in Austria means skiing on perfectly groomed slopes, snowboarding and freeriding on snowy hillsides, and an exceptionally long ski season in glacier ski areas. More than 200 lakes offer ideal hiking and cross-country skiing areas in both winter and summer. The ski areas of Salzburg State became famous thanks to the 3,000-metre Kitzsteinhorn. Above all, Zell am See and Kaprun offer wonderful skiing holidays for all ability levels.
The ski areas of Styria draw skiers and snowboarders to Schladming and Dachstein-Tauern. A relaxed atmosphere and tranquillity are the order of the day—unless championships are being held once again on the World Cup slopes.
Tyrol is considered Austria’s most popular ski holiday destination. The world-famous, glamorous Kitzbühel exudes Tyrolean charm, as do Ischgl, Lech, Sölden, St. Anton, Zürs, as well as the Wilder Kaiser and the Zillertal. Après-ski is naturally famous here too, sometimes lasting until dawn, as are the Stubai and Tux glaciers.
