Kitzbühel Winter Opening

Hard to believe: skiing has been possible in Kitzbühel since November 2! More than 80 cm of fresh snow has made for an extremely early start. Kitzbühel will celebrate its official winter opening from December 14 to 16. At present, the Resterkogel and Kitzbühel Alps cable cars appear to be operating. More lifts are expected to open by the winter opening.

Winter start program in Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel's interesting winter start program has plenty of attractions: parties that last until morning at some bars in the ski region; a Hahnenkamm night gondola ride and a candlelit dinner at Hochkitzbühel on December 14. The Kitzbühel Christmas market features bell ringing, mulled wine, Christmas carols and stories. There are various opportunities to test new ski models.

Chairlift doubles capacity

The new 8-seater chairlift is expected to be running in time for Kitzbühel's winter opening. Its hourly capacity is said to have more than doubled—from 1,300 to 3,200 people. The journey supposedly takes almost half as long—5 instead of 9 minutes. Good news for many ski holidaymakers.

The ski area is one of the most exclusive alpine ski holiday destinations. People of international renown can be spotted here. The colorful houses of picturesque Kitzbühel are famous. The elegant atmosphere of Kitzbühel's hotels and their excellent cuisine don't come cheap, of course. But more affordable guesthouses can also be found on the outskirts and in the suburbs.

The dreamy charm of Kitzbühel

But it's not just luxury boutiques that attract visitors. The region exudes infectious joie de vivre and dreamy charm. Kitzbühel's winter idyll enchants ski holidaymakers before winter has really begun—and before the first flakes have fallen elsewhere. Kitzbühel's ski area is favorably situated. Its northwesterly aspect traps moist clouds and brings heavy snowfall. Alpine meadows are an ideal base for ski slopes, so a firm snow cover of around 20 cm is enough. Rocky, stony ground requires much more snow.
