Slovenia started its ski advertising campaign, through which the country is trying to promote skiing holidays for the beginners.
Slovenia is a small state on the Balkan Peninsula, which borders with Italy and Austria. Very often Slovenia is confused with another ski area in Central Europe - Slovakia. The new marketing company of the country in the world media is not only aimed at attracting interest to Slovenia by the beginners, but also to avoid confusion in the names of countries.
More than 40% of Slovenian territory is covered by mountains. So alpine skiing is the country's national sport. To date, Slovenia has dozens of ski resorts. The most famous of them are: Kranjska Gora and Maribor, where every year are held World Cup competitions in alpine skiing.
Slovenia also positions itself as one of the cheap ski holiday regions. The average cost of ski pass in Slovenia is 147 euros, which is 10-15% lower than in neighboring Italy and Austria. Slovenes themselves say about organizing ski holidays at home in such way: "Western standards at Eastern European prices".
The fact that Slovenia ski vacation is gaining popularity is proved by the increase of tourist traffic. So, in February 2010 - the peak month of the ski season - the number of tourists visiting Slovenia is amounted to 153,000 people, which is for 8% higher compared with February 2009.
