Cortina d’Ampezzo, in the Italian province of Belluno, is known as a ski resort for the beautiful and the wealthy—and, of course, as an Olympic city that has hosted the Winter Games. World-famous personalities can be found here—VIPs, the beautiful, the wealthy and sporting champions. This elegant ski resort, at an altitude of around 1,200 m, has an international flair.
Cortina d’Ampezzo hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956. Today, the exciting World Cup races are highlights of the ski season. Bobsleigh races, championships in curling and ice hockey, cross-country skiing events and snow polo are also held here. Adventurous visitors can take an exciting bobsleigh ride or go rafting on the Olympic facilities. Roger Moore even raced down Cortina’s bobsleigh track on skis in the James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only.”

Cortina d’Ampezzo is one of Italy’s finest ski areas. A ski holiday in the Dolomites is a truly captivating experience. Around 140 kilometres of pistes offer breathtaking panoramic views of the legendary, majestic peaks rising above 3,000 metres. The fascinating Dolomites reveal an extraordinary variety of facets—a natural work of art, with immense, beautiful, rugged and steeply descending landscapes.
The imposing Cristallo, at over 3,200 m, towers above Cortina, as does the proud three-thousander Tofana. Ideal pistes for all ability levels lie at their feet. They are among the most beautiful in the Dolomites.
Cortina d’Ampezzo also has a big heart for children. From mid-March to around 6 April 2008, ski passes and accommodation were to be free for children up to 8 years old. Children aged 8 to 12 were to receive a 50 per cent discount. Ski schools and equipment hire shops also offered great-value deals. That makes it easy to enjoy a ski holiday.
