Tignes to host the 1st Winter X Games in Europe
The Winter X Games are a kind of Olympic Games for alpine action sports. Like most of these action sports, the X Games—which feature the relevant disciplines in both summer and winter—originated in the USA. The X Games have now also conquered the lucrative European market and secured a firm place in the local TV landscape, for example on the specialist channel "Eurosport".
Winter X Games
Until now, anyone wanting to experience the Winter X Games live had to travel to the USA to watch the event up close. Thanks to the French ski resort of Tignes, that is now a thing of the past. Tignes, in the Savoie department, will host the first Winter X Games in the Alps and Europe from March 10–12, 2010.

Slopestyle Skiing / Superpipe Skiing and Snowboarding
Most holiday apartments and ski hotels in Tignes are close to the competition venues, where the winners of the Winter X Games will be determined in March in disciplines such as slopestyle skiing and snowboarding or superpipe skiing and snowboarding. France in general, and Tignes in particular, are already well versed in hosting top-level winter sports events. The 1992 Winter Olympics and various European and World Championships in skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing are examples of this.
With the Winter X Games in Tignes, all the excitement of this event is coming to Europe for the first time, giving ski holidays in France an extra boost this year. Tignes is the highest-altitude municipality in all of Europe and is therefore considered very snow-sure. This means Tignes is well equipped to ensure that the Winter X Games run smoothly and excitingly, just as it is for ski holidays in the French Alps in general.
