Famous Swiss ski resort Zermatt has launched recently the highest located hotel in the European continent built to the top environmental standards. The new hotel and restaurant are situated at the top of their Matterhorn Glacier paradise ski area at 3.883 m above the sea which is 84 m higher than already operated ski center and lifts. The restaurant provides 120 seats and the hotel can lodge up to 40 guests.
New building is very efficient environmentally up to the point of being near self-sufficient – all needed energy is generated on site by solar batteries and thermal heat pumps. All waste and leftovers are sorted and recycled locally, so it can be said that Zermatt also has the world’s highest garbage recycling plant.
So once again Zermatt proved its reputation of one of the most environment friendly ski resort in the world. One of the main measures to prevent air pollution there is the total no-go for all combustion engine vehicles. This also prevents noise pollution, so any city dweller arriving to Zermatt is stunned with its almost complete silence. All of this creates kind of special atmosphere, peculiar for this small mountain village. Zermatt provides great skiing possibilities for skiers of all skills levels and is also a great place to indulge beauty of the local mountains.
