Styria’s largest ski mountains are connected by the Schladming 4-Mountain Swing. It runs nonstop from Reiteralm via Hochwurzen and Planai to Hauser Kaibling. It has been voted one of Europe’s/Austria’s best ski areas several times. Winter sports conditions are fantastic. Around 115 kilometres of slopes await winter sports enthusiasts. The spa and ski resort of Schladming is particularly popular. It lies in Upper Styria, near where the Talbach flows into the Enns. To the north, the majestic Dachstein range fills the horizon. Schladming is also famous for its night slalom World Cup races. Thousands of fans line the slopes along the Planai racecourse. The Planai FIS slopes are especially popular with ski holidaymakers, though there are easier runs too. Four runs from Planai and Hochwurzen lead directly into Schladming.
Hochwurzen is known as a mountain for night owls. The floodlit ski slope and illuminated toboggan run are very popular. Carving enthusiasts love the long, wide runs. Freeskiers and snowboarders love the playground. Families and less experienced ski holidaymakers flock to the easy slopes.
Reiteralm ranks among Europe’s elite ski areas. It has been awarded the Gold piste quality seal. World Cup winners also train on its excellent slopes, which offer wonderful panoramic views.
The Hauser Kaibling ski area offers dream slopes for every ability level. Carving enthusiasts and snowboarders also appreciate its wonderful, wide runs.
On Sunday evenings, Planai Stadium hosts a fantastic ski show featuring around 70 performers. “I am from Austria” showcases stunts by snowboarders, paragliders, ski instructors, bikers and more. On Monday evenings, a snow party kicks off in the Rohrmoos holiday village. According to the organisers, admission to both events is free.
On Tuesday evenings, the Rohrmoos Erlebniswelt invites visitors to a mountain hut evening, with the Planai hosting one on Wednesday evenings. On Thursday evenings, Schladming’s shops stay open for candlelit shopping until 9 pm. Free horse-drawn carriages take shoppers from one store to another.
