A heavy snowfall raged over Eastern Sierra mountains in California during the last weekend left up to 45 centimeters of fresh snow powder on Mammoth Mountain ski resort. So considering this gift of mother nature the resort’s management made the decision to open the ski area ten days ahead of the schedule – namely yesterday, on November 3rd, 2008.
Thus, Mammoth Mountain joined the company of Colorado’s Loveland and Arapahoe Basin opened some weeks ago after the thrilling snowmaking run for the title of the first US ski resort to be opened for the season and Vermont’s Killington and Sunday River located in Maine, which started the season during the past few days.
The Mammoth Mountain ski resort is known for the ski season duration – sometimes it lasts up to the Independence Day in July 4th. And the 2008-2009 season has a chance to last even longer than that. At the moment special early season lift tickets priced at USD 52 for adults, USD 39 for teenagers and USD 26 for kids and senior citizens are available.
First Tracks packages, which consist of accommodation based on double occupancy and lift passes can be purchased for USD 99 per person per night. And now more good news. Since December 20, 2008 regional Seattle based carrier Horizon Air starts providing daily flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Mammoth Lakes airport.
