The Ski Club of Great Britain informed that the highest gondola lift in the world has been officially opened in the Sichuan province of China. The lift is meant to carry visitors to the Aba Great Glacier and can reach the heights of 4,843 m above sea level.

The gondola lift is constructed by a well-known Austrian company Doppelmayr Garaventa Group specializing on ropeways, gondolas and chairlifts. The gondola has eight passenger cabins and is capable of transporting 800 people per hour.

The Aba Great Glacier lift’s top station is 327m higher than the former highest construction of this kind situated also in China, at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Yunnan province, which was built by another famous European company Leitner and has been operated since 1999.

The Sichuan province of China is known to be home of China’s best ski resorts visited by about two million people per year. The most remarkable ski resort of the area is Mountain Ski Resort at Chengdu Xiling where the largest in the country snow park is located.
