When looking for accommodation for a ski vacation in Teton, the desired mix of winter sports and off-piste activities is the first consideration. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is a winter sports area for skiing and snowboarding with more than 2,500 acres of skiable terrain. In the context of the host community of Jackson, Snow King is a ski area in winter offering skiing, snowboarding, tubing and night skiing.

Winter sports and alternatives off the slopes

For groups with different interests, Teton offers additional specific destinations beyond the documented ski areas. Grand Teton National Park is located in Teton County, Wyoming. At Jenny Lake, hikers can walk around the lake and hike to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. There is also a shuttle boat service; visitors can bring their own boat or rent a canoe or kayak. Another focus on nature is the National Elk Refuge, where wildlife viewing is cited as the main activity. Refuge Road is the official entrance to the protected area. The National Museum of Wildlife Art complements this theme with a collection of more than 5,000 artworks depicting wildlife from around the world. The museum was founded in 1987; its Sculpture Trail is three-quarters of a mile long and leads up a sagebrush-covered hillside.

Easy trails and historic sites

If you would like to include a clearly described, short trail in addition to more challenging activities, an easy, one-mile loop trail leads from the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center to the historic Murie Ranch. The ranch was once the home of Olaus and Mardy Murie, two influential figures in the American conservation movement. The Menor’s Ferry Trail is less than half a mile long and leads to Bill Menor’s historic cabin and general store, as well as a replica of the ferry that crossed the Snake River around the turn of the 20th century. The history of settlement and culture is also tangible at several locations. The Menors Ferry Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. The Mormon Row Historic District was added to the same register as a historic district in 1997. T. A. Moulton’s barn in Mormon Row is a frequently photographed subject with the Teton Range as its backdrop.

Culture around Jackson

In the context of the host community of Jackson, Town Square, officially George Washington Memorial Park, features arches made of elk antlers from the nearby Elk Refuge at each corner. In winter, there is an ice rink there. The Center for the Arts offers live music and performing arts at the Center Theater every week, as well as visual arts exhibitions and classes. The campus features visual arts exhibitions in indoor and outdoor areas. The History Jackson Hole museum campus includes two exhibition galleries, an archive center, historic cabins and an outdoor area for programs. The Museum Mural presents the Shoshone language Newe Daygwap. This allows you to combine a stay focused on winter sports with nature and cultural offerings without centering all activities on the same location or accommodation.

Ways to put the area into further context

For cycling and route planning, a documented 20.5-mile paved multi-use path runs in one direction from the town of Jackson to South Jenny Lake. In the National Elk Refuge, a five-mile section of the multi-use path also runs from the area north of the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center along Flat Creek to the Gros Ventre River. In the broader Jackson Hole area, a network of more than 56 miles of paved paths connects the town of Jackson, Teton Village and Grand Teton National Park. For further comparison of possible places to stay, you can also compare Teton Village, Wilson, Alta and Jackson.
