Park City: Ski Runs, Trails and Historic Main Street

The town runs create a special connection between Park City Mountain's winter sports offerings and the historic downtown area. They provide direct ski access to the town center. Park City is also strongly defined by its trails beyond the ski runs. The town is located in the Wasatch Mountains and has a trail network stretching more than 400 miles. It includes both easy, family-friendly hikes and more challenging trails. The trail network also includes routes intended exclusively for hiking. The Mid Mountain Trail is designated as an IMBA Epic. Park City is also the first IMBA Gold-Level Ride Center. Thus, the classification ranges from the entire trail network to a specifically named trail and the town's Ride Center.

Historic Main Street and Mining History

The historic character is not concentrated in a single building. The historical classification applies on a different scale: Park City's Main Street Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, while the reference to more than 400 historic sites applies to Park City as a whole. Within this context, the Mining Boom Era Residences Thematic District focuses specifically on historically significant residences from the mining boom period of 1872 to 1929. The Park City Museum is located in Old Town on Historic Main Street. It preserves, protects and promotes the history and heritage of Park City. The town's mining history is visible throughout the area through museums, preserved buildings and interpretive signs. At Utah Olympic Park, visitors can experience the Alf Engen Ski Museum at the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center interactively year-round.

Getting Around and Events in Town

Park City Transit provides visitors with free public bus service year-round. Thus, public transportation is part of the town's offerings in addition to ski access. Recurring events are also part of the local character. The Miner's Day Celebration takes place every year on Labor Day and includes the Running of the Balls on historic Main Street. During Savor the Summit, Historic Main Street is transformed into a one-mile-long community dining table celebrating local cuisine. The Kimball Arts Festival transforms Main Street into an open-air gallery. The events therefore have different focuses: Miner's Day combines the fixed date with a special run, Savor the Summit with local cuisine and communal dining, and the Kimball Arts Festival with outdoor art.
