Les Evouettes between Grammont, vineyards and the Rhône

Les Evouettes lies at the foot of Grammont and partly on the alluvial fan of the Tové. The village is one of two settlements in the municipality of Port-Valais. Port-Valais is located at the southeastern end of Lake Geneva, at the mouth of the Rhône; the Stockalper Canal runs between the river and the foot of Grammont.
Nature and wine
Below the Les Evouettes vineyard stretches a fertile plain used for local agriculture. Coming from Évian, the vineyards are the first Valais vineyard on the left bank of the Rhône. The wines of Les Evouettes include Fendant, Pinot noir, Gamaret and Rosé de pinot noir. Wine from Les Evouettes is considered to be known beyond the immediate surrounding area.
It is believed that inhabitants from Roman times were the first to cultivate the alluvial areas that now form the Les Evouettes vineyard. The “Sentier des vignes aux Evouettes” runs through these vineyards as a walking trail. Several refreshment stands are located along the trail, which is open to everyone.
Trails and historical traces
In the area between Le Bouveret and Les Evouettes, hiking trails lead into the mountains and run with views over the lakeshore. There are also numerous opportunities for walks in the vicinity of Le Bouveret and Les Evouettes. The different types of trails can be clearly distinguished: the “Sentier des vignes aux Evouettes” connects vineyards and refreshment stands, while the “Autour de Noville” hiking loop passes through Les Evouettes.
The “Autour de Noville” route offers views of the old Rhône, the Rhône Canal and the Stockalper Canal. It is classified as easy, with a T1 rating. On the historical VS 18.2 route, the section near Les Evouettes follows a more direct course than the former route. Along the route, the historical section features a dry-stone wall reinforced with cement, described as unique because of its height and length.
Village life and culture
Les Evouettes has preserved its rural character and distinctly village-like identity. Since 1991, the Zollinger family has operated an organic seed business in Les Evouettes. Beneath the Les Evouettes school is a place where believers can celebrate their faith; the Chorale St Michel also uses it for rehearsals.
The traditional Fête au village des Evouettes, held on Saturday, 19 September 2026, includes musical entertainment and dancing. The event also includes catering. Since 2019, the Port-Valais library has hosted a free Café littéraire with tea or coffee once a month. The event is open to everyone and usually includes around 10 to 15 people per session.
Getting oriented locally
Several named parking options are available for getting there. The Parkplatz du Grammont is at the entrance to Les Evouettes when arriving from Vouvry. The Parkplatz Tauredunum is opposite the Salle Tauredunum. The Parkplatz de l’Église de Port-Valais is at the exit of Les Evouettes on the cantonal road.
The 657-metre-long Les Evouettes tunnel was planned as a central element of the bypass. Its opening on 19 September 2025 was intended to route most through traffic outside the village.
