Winter and Mountain Sports
At Mont Chemin, there are at least eight equipped sectors for single-pitch climbing, as well as multi-pitch routes. Climbing is possible there year-round. The main climbing sector on Mont Chemin can be reached on foot from the Beau-Site hotel.
Landscape and Geography
Chemin VS is a locality in the municipalities of Martigny and Val de Bagnes in the canton of Valais. Chemin is considered an elevated location between the Rhône Valley and the Dranse Valley. From an elevation of 1,150 m on Mont-Chemin, Chemin-Dessus overlooks Martigny and the Rhône Valley.
The Couvert du Planard is a green alpine pasture at an elevation of 1,300 m on Mont Chemin, below the road connecting Chemin-Dessus with the Col des Planches.
Paths and Hikes
The Sentier des mines du Mont Chemin leads to mine galleries where iron was extracted for fifteen centuries. Lead, silver, and fluorite were also mined there in the 20th century. The trail crosses meadows, wooded pastures, and mid-altitude mountain forests.
Hiking itineraries from the Beau-Site can lead to viewpoints overlooking the Grand Combin. Summer routes from the Beau-Site can reach alpine pastures with refreshment huts.
Cycling Routes
The Le Planard mountain bike route passes through Chemin-Dessous and climbs through the forest toward the Col des Planches. It is 27 km long and includes 1,065 m of elevation gain. The road route via the Col des Planches, Champex, and Petite Forclaz passes through Chemin-Dessous and Chemin-Dessus.
