Basse-Nendaz itself lies on the left bank of the Printse at an altitude of 992 meters and serves as the school, administrative, and parish center of Nendaz.
Culture and History
The local history includes the large white church of Basse-Nendaz. An original chapel is incorporated into it as a crypt. The chapel dates from the late 9th or early 10th century; its structural remains were rediscovered during restoration work carried out from 1964 to 1967.
Basse-Nendaz is considered one of the villages first mentioned in March 985. At the foot of the church tower stands a grave associated with Charles-Frédéric Brun. He is known in the region as “the deserter”; local traditions describe his identity and history as uncertain.
