Verscio is located in the Swiss canton of Ticino and the Locarno district. The village is part of the municipality of Terre di Pedemonte and lies at approximately 275 metres above sea level; the elevation range extends from 223 to 1,188 metres.

Geographical setting

Terre di Pedemonte is located in Ticino between the Onsernone Valley, Valle Cannobina, Locarno and the Piano di Magadino. To the west, the geographical area continues into Valle Vigezzo. Verscio covers an area of 3.76 square kilometres. Formerly an independent political municipality, Verscio merged with Tegna and Cavigliano to form the municipality of Terre di Pedemonte on 14 April 2013.

The Teatro Dimitri cultural centre in Terre di Pedemonte was founded in 1971 and is associated with clowning, non-verbal and burlesque theatre, contemporary theatre, dance, live music, family performances and themed festivals. The parish church of San Fedele in Verscio features Romanesque and late Baroque architectural elements; its consecration is recorded as having taken place in 1214.

The wider regional surroundings of Verscio include Castello Sasso Corbaro, the monastery of Bellinzona and Santi Pietro e Paolo. Falconeria Locarno is also located nearby.

Transport

The wider Terre di Pedemonte and Centovalli region is served by the narrow-gauge railway connection from Locarno via Camedo to Domodossola. On the Swiss section, it is known as the Centovallina and is operated by FART.
