Kriegstetten: Hotels and Accommodation

Kriegstetten is a municipality and the capital of the Wasseramt district in the canton of Solothurn, Switzerland. The oldest house in the village is the Alte Schmiede (Old Smithy): it was built in 1605 and is now known as the Misteli House. A historical description from 1827 portrayed Kriegstetten as a church village with 13 houses and 85 inhabitants.

History

The former Quellental spa was granted a license for a bathing establishment in 1831. Jeremias Gotthelf included the Quellental spa in his novel Anne Bäbi Jowäger. The Gasthof Sternen was built in 1790 and burned down in August 1847. The Gasthof zum Kreuz was built by Pisoni in 1774.

Churches

The present Catholic church in Kriegstetten was built in 1842–1843 in place of an older church and is dedicated to Saint Mauritius. At the Recherswil–Obergerlafingen road junction, a cross marks the former site of a Trinity chapel. The church treasury in Kriegstetten included a monstrance.

The Reformed church building was completed in 1963 and consecrated in 1964.

Landscape and Trails

Burgäschisee and Inkwilersee are the only two lakes in the canton of Solothurn. A hike through the Wasseramt began in Kriegstetten’s village square and led via the Urzeitenweg to Burgäschisee and Aeschi.

The Urzeitenweg is also an approximately 35-kilometre cycling route. It runs mainly along minor roads and field paths through 13 municipalities in the Wasseramt.

Surroundings

The 13th-century tower in Halten houses a local history museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions.
