Urmein is a municipality in the Viamala Region of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. The village is a clustered settlement on the Heinzenberg, west of Thusis. The resort village of Oberurmein belongs to Urmein and is located at an elevation of 1,527 to 1,609 metres.

Landscape

South of the village, the Nolla flows through a deeply incised gorge. The Glaser Grat rises west of this gorge; the municipal area extends towards Zwölfihorn.

The Lüschgrat is located in the immediate surroundings of Urmein. The surrounding area also includes the Glaser Grat, Piz Beverin and Verduschopf.

Culture

The church in Urmein was built between 1720 and 1722. Urmein has had its own parish since 1725.
